Datuk Dr. Ramzi has 3 days to report to police

KUALA TERENGGANU (NST): Datuk Dr Ahmad Ramzi Mohammad Zubir, the political secretary to former Terengganu menteri besar, Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh, has just three days to come out of hiding or face arrest, police said yesterday.

Ramzi’s cooperation is being sought by the police over ongoing investigations into the SMS death threats sent to three Terengganu assemblymen last month.

State police deputy chief SAC II Hamzah Mohd Jamil said police had failed to locate Ramzi both here and his Kuala Lumpur residences.

And despite issuing press statement on April 25 that his cooperation was needed, Ramzi has failed to turn up.

Hamzah said Ramzi’s cooperation was vital as police believe they could wrap up the case after talking to him.
“We are giving him three days to show up, If he fails to do so by then, we will seek a warrant for his arrest,” he said yesterday.

The SMS threat issue took centre stage last month amid a political tug of war between embattled Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Said and at least 10 state assemblymen aligned to Idris.

Just before midnight on April 12, on the eve of the state assembly sitting, three assemblymen lodged police reports that they received death threats via SMS.

In their reports, they said the SMSes were believed to have been sent by Ahmad’s senior private secretary, Wan Ahmad Wan Muda, who allegedly told them not to proceed with a rumoured plan to table a motion of no-confidence against Ahmad at the state assembly sitting.

The three, and the seven other “rebels”, citing security concerns, boycotted the sitting the next day.

Wan Ahmad also lodged a police report on the matter the next day.

However, several days later, police arrested a clerk from Seri Kembangan suspected of being the SMS sender.

The 31-year-old man was released a few days later on police bail, and at the same time, police confirmed that Wan Ahmad was not the sender of the SMS.

Ramzi has been reported missing a day after the clerk was arrested.

KUALA TERENGGANU (The New Straits Times): For a captain whose boat is being rocked, Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Said was his usual composed and smiling self when he faced the press yesterday.

The press met him twice, once at the lunch break and when he was leaving the state assembly sitting, but on both occasions he refused to open up.

In the first encounter, Ahmad said he had no idea why 10 BN assemblymen failed to turn up at the assembly.

Much to reporters’ surprise, he said he did not know that three of them had lodged police reports yesterday after receiving death threats by SMS.

“I just got back from Kemaman. I do not know anything about the SMS and also why they did not attend.”
However, Ahmad said he was not surprised as it was normal for politicians to absent themselves at times.

Asked if he would contact them for an explanation, he replied: “I don’t think so.”

The menteri besar, who is state Umno liaison chief, said he would not persuade them to attend the final day of the sitting today.

On claims by the three assemblymen that one of his senior officials had allegedly sent the SMS, he declined to comment, saying that the matter was a police case.

When stopped by reporters as he was about to leave in the afternoon, he said he had no idea that Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin wanted to meet him to clear the air.
