KUALA BERANG, May 14 (Bernama)– Terengganu hope to export RM3.3 million worth of hybrid corn to the United States in two months time when the first phase of 10,000 acres of hybrid corn are planted in a number of districts.

State Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Committee chairman Rozi Mamat said in the first phase, 2,000 acres would be planted in Hulu Terengganu, Marang and Kemaman.

“We hope to export 120 metric tonnes per consignment, four times a year,” he told reporters after witnessing the signing an agreement between Agrotech Development Corp Sdn Bhd (TADC) and Nelson Franchise (M) Sdn Bhd, here Thursday.

TACD was represented by its chairman Rosli Haron while Nelson Kwok Teng Toong signed on behalf of Nelson’s Franchise.

He added that the planting would go on in phases and completed by 2015.

“The state government has allocated RM1 million to provide basic amenities for the project,” he said.

Rozi said hybrid corn has a very high demand in the global market and would provide a better income to those involved in the project, compared with traditional corn planters.
