Datuk Dr Ahmad Ramzi Mohammad Zubir had three laptops seized from him

KUALA TERENGGANU (NST): Datuk Dr Ahmad Ramzi Mohammad Zubir, who was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the text message death threats sent to three assemblymen last month, was released on RM50,000 police bail yesterday.

He was tightlipped about the incident and his only words to reporters waiting in front of the Kuala Terengganu police station were: “I have nothing to say. Thank you.”

State police deputy chief SAC II Hamzah Mohd Jamil said police seized a third laptop from Ramzi’s house in Kota Damansara, Selangor, early yesterday.

Ramzi, who is the political secretary to former Terengganu menteri besar Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh, was arrested at an undisclosed location a day after a warrant was issued after he failed to turn up for questioning in connection with the sending of text messages to the assemblymen last month.

Police seized two laptops and a modem from his house in Kampung Kubang Parit here on Monday and have collected evidence allegedly linking him to the SMSes.
Ramzi is being investigated for criminal intimidation by an anonymous communication, defamation and offences under the Multimedia and Communications Act 1998.

The SMS threat took centre stage last month amid a political tug of war between embattled Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Said and 10 assemblymen aligned to Idris.

Three assemblymen lodged police reports after receiving the SMS threats on April 14.

The three said the SMSes were sent by Ahmad’s senior private secretary, Wan Ahmad Wan Muda, who allegedly told them not to proceed with a rumoured plan to table a motion of no-confidence against Ahmad at the state assembly sitting. Police later absolved Wan Ahmad of any involvement.

On April 25, a 31-year-old clerk from Seri Kembangan, Selangor, was arrested at his house, after he was suspected of sending the SMSes.
