PUTRAJAYA (The Star): Terengganu Umno liaison committee chairman Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein is aware of the “early warning signs” shown by a few state assemblymen and knows there could be trouble if nothing is done,
However, he said more than 6,000 grassroots leaders had assured him that the situation on the ground was not as serious as claimed by several parties, including bloggers.
He was commenting on a decision by several state backbenchers’ decision to stay quiet during the recent assembly sitting.
Hishammuddin also dismissed speculation that there was a major split in Terengganu Umno.
He added that Umno members in the state were still generally united, but he appreciated the “subtle” signs.
“As least, the assemblymen attended the sitting,” he said after opening the Home Ministry Merdeka Day celebrations here yesterday.
Hishammuddin said unity was essential for the party before the next general election.
“I hope Barisan will still rule Terengganu after the next elections.’’
