KUALA TERENGGANU (NST): The investigation being carried out by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission on alleged graft involving a state assemblyman is a normal process, Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Said said.
He said everyone was innocent until proven guilty.
“We just have to wait until the investigation is completed,” he said after chairing the weekly state exco meeting here.
Ahmad declined comment on the investigation or whether he had been approached by the MACC for a statement.
On Sunday, the 42-year-old assemblyman was arrested for alleged graft while having breakfast at a hotel in Kijal. The MACC nabbed him and his 45-year-old friend at 9.20am.
It was alleged that they had asked a company executive to meet them at the hotel to discuss a monthly kickback amounting to 13 per cent of the contract given to the company for 24 months.
Some RM30,000 was believed to have changed hands so far.
On a separate issue, Ahmad said Kemaman port would be equip-ped with better facilities. The cost of the upgrade is being reviewed by the East Coast Economic Region Development Council.
“We also applied for the road in the Kalong industrial area to be expanded to four lanes.”
