KUALA TERENGGANU: An Indonesian maid of a Terengganu Umno stalwart and former state executive councillor went on a shopping spree with RM2,500 that she had stolen from her employer, not realising that her boss was on her trail.
She was dumbfounded to see her enraged employer waiting to nab her while she was paying for the items at a hypermarket, here, yesterday.
The employer had traced the 22-year-old maid to the hypermarket after one of his neighbours alerted him of her whereabouts.
State Deputy CID Chief Superintendent K. Manoharan said the maid, who is from West Java, fled with the money and her belongings when the employer was away.
Supt Manoharan said the employer then apprehended the maid at the hypermarket and handed her over to the police.
She has been remanded for four days to facilitate investigations.
In an unrelated development, Supt Manoharan said a foreigner was detained by the public for outraging the modesty of an 11-year-old girl at Pasar Payang central market here on Thursday.
He added that passers-by, who heard the victim’s screams, surrounded and assaulted the suspect before police officers arrived in a patrol car to quell the situation.
Police who took custody of the injured suspect found him to be an illegal immigrant.
It had happened to my next door neighbor too, almost this time last year. She, a pretty Indon “woman” prepared herself well while her employer was away in a clinic giving her mother a treatment.
Did not know about the “drama”, I and my helper another Java women, called out for her to share some fried bee hoon. After almost 15 minutes, there was no respond. We thought she must have slipped in the bathroom while cleaning and must have “fainted”.
The helper from a house up the hill, told us there was no one home..What no one home? Anyway, we got on with our business at home. Not long after, there was a knocking on our door.
“I kept knocking, no one answered the door. No one heard me!!” She complained. Innocently I replied,
“I was in the kitchen, preparing some fried bee hoon and I called out to your house, no one answered me”.
“No, I am not talking about you” she continued.”I went to see the room downstairs through the window, no one was there. And little Sarah is sleeping upstairs”…
“What???” I was in awe. So, the person up the hill saw it all.
She went off with lots of jewelery, money, pretty new clothing and a brand new camera. No wonder, she had asked for her passport shortly before. An accomplice must have been here.
Such a heartless creature leaving a little girl sleeping.
