KUALA TERENGGANU: State police have no plans to slow down operations against road thugs and illegal racers.
State police chief Datuk Mohd Shukri Dahlan said although illegal racing had decreased of late, regular police operations would continue.
“We want to wipe out the menace for good, if possible, in Terengganu. That is our target.”
Shukri said, currently, three districts were notorious for illegal racing.
“There are five hotspots where road thugs seem to congregate in Kuala Terengganu, two in Kemaman and one in Dungun,” he said yesterday.
He was speaking after visiting Corporal Azli Husin, 44, who was knocked down by a motorist at a roadblock at Km79.6 Jalan Kuala Terengganu-Kuantan on Friday.
Azli, who was attempting to stop a group of road thugs, suffered serious injuries to the head, chest, shoulder and neck in the 2.30pm incident.
Shukri said Azli was now in a stable condition and would be transferred to the normal ward from the intensive care unit in a few days.
