KUALA TERENGGANU, Sat (Bernama): Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin is sad over the collapse of the roof of the stadium named after him, at the Gong Badak Sports Complex last Tuesday.
“Today (Friday), I had an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to present him the details and photographs of the stadium roof collapse.
“His Majesty was saddened and disappointed, of course,” he said after joining the Terengganu police in an anti-crime and road bully operation here last night.
In the 9.30am incident on Tuesday, 60 per cent of the roof at the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium, including that above the royal box at the grand stand, built at a total cost of RM270 million, collapsed.
The stadium, opened by Tuanku Mizan on May 10 last year, could accommodate 50,000 people and was the first of its kind in Asia to utilise a column-free system.
Commenting further, Ahmad said he was willing to expose all flaws which could have led to the collapse.
On the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission investigation into the incident, he said the commission had yet to contact him for a statement. — BERNAMA
