KUALA TERENGGANU (The Star): Police arrested Datuk Dr Ahmad Ramzi Mohamad Zubir, the political secretary to former Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh, on Tuesday to assist investigations into the threatening text message received by three Barisan Nasional assemblymen last month.
Deputy state police chief SAC II Hamzah Mohd Jamil said with Ahmad Ramzi’s arrest, police believed they have settled about 95 per cent of the case.
Police also seized two laptop computers and a modem from Ahmad Ramzi’s home in Kampung Kubang Parit, near here, at 3pm Tuesday.
“This is not an easy case as it involves technical matters. But we have acted to solve the case as soon as possible,” he said.
Police had been looking for Ahmad Ramzi as he was among the individuals who had given media statements regarding the death threat contained in the text message received by Ajil assemblyman Datuk Rosol Wahid, Abdul Halim Jusoh (Permaisuri) and Zakaria Abdullah (Paka) on April 13.
This prompted 10 Barisan assemblymen, including the three who received the message, to stay away from the Terengganu state assembly sitting on April 14.
Hamzah said, Ahmad Ramzi, who was a Barisan candidate in the 12th general election, was being held at the Terengganu police headquarters and would be remanded if the investigations could not be completed within 24 hours.
Police were investigating the case under Section 507 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and Section 500 of the same law for defamation.
Ahmad Ramzi is also being investigated under the Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1988 for improper use of network services. – Bernama
