KUALA TERENGGANU, Mon (NST):
Datuk Dr Ahmad Ramzi Mohammad, the political secretary to former Terengganu Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh, is now wanted by police.
Terengganu police had given him three days from Friday to show up or face arrest so that he can be interviewed in connection with the SMS death threats that were sent to three assemblymen last month.
Terengganu police deputy chief SAC II Hamzah Mohd Jamil said police have also issued an alert to the Immigration Department to ensure that Zamri does not leave the country.
Interpol have also been informed to trace Ahmad Ramzi’s whereabouts.
“Those with information about him should call the nearest police station as Ramzi’s cooperation is very much needed for this case,” he told reporters.
The SMS threat issue took centre stage last month amid a political tug of war between embattled Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Said and at least 10 state assembleymen aligned to to Idris.
The three assemblymen lodged police reports shortly after receiving the SMS threats.
Ramzi, who is now Idris’ special officer, was also at the police station grounds when they lodged the reports.
In their reports, the three assemblymen said the SMSes were believed to have been sent by Ahmad’s senior private secretary , Wan Ahmad Wan Muda, who allegedly told them not to proceed with a rumoured plan to table a motion of no-confidence against Ahmad at the state assembly sitting.
The three and the seven other ‘rebels’, citing security concerns, boycotted the sitting next day and Wan Ahmad also lodged a police report on the matter next day.
Police later absolved him (Wan Ahmad) of any involvement. Several days later a 31-year-old clerk from Seri Kembangan was arrested at his house, suspected of being the SMS sender.
Ahmad Ramzi went missing a day after the clerk was arrested.
The case is being investigated under Section 507 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation by annonymous communication.
