KUALA TERENGGANU, WED: Dec 03, 19:33 – Bernama
The Terengganu Government will compensate about 300 traders for losses incurred as a result of flash floods, two days ago.
The traders were operating an assortment of businesses at the market in Pasar Payang here, when it was inundated by 0.5m of flood waters.
Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Said said the state government would give the compensation money to each trader, especially rice sellers whose booths and merchandises were ruined.
“We want the affected traders to assess their losses and register their names and booth numbers so that the right compensation could be given to them,” he told reporters when visiting the market today.
The market was one of the popular tourist attractions in the state.
Rice seller Siti Sulong, 53, said she lost almost RM5,000 when most of the rice was ruined by flood waters.
“I need to sell the rice for just RM10 a sack because if I don’t, they would be destroyed anyway,” said the trader who has been in the business for the past 17 years.
